Build Your Own Metal Storage Cabinet at Home

You can build a metal storage cabinet at home with an old filing cabinet to use as the base and skeleton. It does require some skill, and a bit of creativity but it is still feasible.

Tools and Materials Needed
You will of course need some goggles and gloves to ensure your safety. If you don't have any old filing cabinets you should be able to find some at a local thrift shop such as Goodwill, Salvation Army or any store that sells used office furniture. When picking out old filing cabinets to use, be sure they are in fairly good condition, rust and dent free. You will also need pre-cut sheet metal that will be used for shelves and cubby holes, and a welder to attach your shelves to the interior of your metal storage cabinet.

Step 1 - Design and Purpose
Decide how many filing cabinets you will need and for what purposes and then remove the drawers. Your new metal storage cabinets can meet a variety of your needs whether they are for storage, or for creating a new desk or work bench by laying some wood or metal onto the top of your filing cabinets.

Step 2 - Interior Shelves and Cubbyholes
With a little instruction in welding you can easily create some cubbyholes and shelves for your new metal storage cabinets. You will need some pre-cut sheet metal that is slightly larger than what you need with the edges folded to 90 degrees so they can be attached by spot welding them to the interior.

Once the shelves are secure, take another piece of sheet metal and attach it vertically to divide the shelves into storage cubby holes. With a little patience make sure your lines are accurate to ensure all shelves and cubbyholes are level.

Step 3 - Creating Cabinet Doors
Depending upon what will be stored inside your new metal storage cabinet, you might need to create some doors. These doors will help you keep curious children away from dangerous items or chemicals, as well as help you keep your items more organized.

If you would like to be able to see what is inside at a glance, using a pane of glass with a metal frame you can attach hinges for a door. An easier way of doing this, is to find a door that will fit your cabinet at a local hardware store. Easier yet if you do not need the glass, is to take another pieced of sheet metal with the edges and corners well sanded attach some hinges and voila! You have a door that opens and closes easily. If you are using your new metal storage cabinet to safely guard your expensive tools, with a bit more work, you can attach a padlock to it.

That's all there is to it, its actually quite simple and inexpensive.

Keep It Clean

Tria 1 is a single-shelf, do-it-yourself solution that allows you to neatly organize components right under your flat panel without the need to run the connections through your wall. Tria 1 is designed with covers that easily snap on to the spine, for routing and concealing wires.

The Tria 1 is constructed using 6mm tempered glass, and supports up to 30 lbs (13.6 kg). It's fully adjustable at one-inch increments, to get it set just where you need it, and is also compatible with OmniMount's Tria 2.

Cabinet Door Hinges - Style Comes In Small Packages

It's hard to find a device that's high in quality but very affordable in price, and most of the time if you just buy cheap products, you get very poor quality for the price. But if you want to find the cheapest all in one printer that has the best quality, then one of the choices that you should consider is the Canon MP250 All-in-One Printer. The following is a complete review of this model.

This is a very simple but aesthetically pleasant device. It has an overall white body with a gray bottom panel. When not in use, you might be intrigued where the paper comes out when printed. But the output tray actually props open when in use. The top panel can be opened and the glass panel serves as the flatbed scanner and copier. It has very simple buttons on the top right panel and it has a small 7-segment LED display which shows only the important information that you need when using the device.

For an all in one, this device is very compact. It has the dimensions of 17.5" x 13.1" x 6.1" and a weight of 12.7 pounds. You can set it on any tabletop, desktop, shelf, or stand, but you have to make sure that it is near your main PC, since it is not wireless-enabled and the distance of the printer from the PC is limited by the wire that connects the two devices.

Although you cannot print directly from memory cards and USB devices, you can still print directly from PictBridge cameras. The printer is connected to the PC via a USB cable so activity between the two devices is very speedy.

Printing and Other Functions

Although this is the cheapest all in one printer from Canon, it can definitely compete with the features of other more expensive models. As a printer, it is quite fast with a printing speed of 7 inches per minute for black documents and 4.8 inches per minute for colored documents. You can even print borderless 4x6 photos in 56 seconds. Borderless printing on this device can even be done on letter size papers or 8.5'' x 11''. The maximum resolutions that can be produced by the printer are 600x600 dpi for black documents and 4800x1200 dpi for colored images. Despite its affordable price, the quality of this printer really shouldn't be underestimated.

The copier can reproduce images in as fast as 39 seconds for colored documents. You can produce a maximum of 99 copies per single setting. The copier also has other features such as borderless for maximizing paper space; and fit-to-page for large documents that you want to compress.

The scanner is a flatbed which uses a contact image sensor and can read a maximum of 8.5'' x 11.7'' document size. It can produce maximum resolutions of 600x600 dpi for optical scanning and 19200x19200 dpi for interpolated scanning.

Other Features

This device is a member of the Generation Green campaign by Canon. The advocacy of this campaign is to produce electronic devices which will help preserve Mother Nature by conserving energy. The features of this device that complies with the campaign are the Quick Start function that allows you to save energy by starting up quickly; 4-in-1/2-in-1 printing which allows you to save more paper by printing two or four different documents in a single sheet of paper; and Energy Star qualification which means that this device has been certified to use less energy as compared to other printers.
